The annual climbing of the famous mountain Adams Peak (2250 mtr) was again a nice adventure for the eldest group of deaf students of the Dr. Reijntjes School for the Deaf. As a preparation all the old pictures were shown again with nice stories for the warming up! For all the students it was the first visit to Adams Peak.
On February 1st the group of 12 students with 2 staff members and our Dutch guest sports teacher Siebold Scheper, left to Hatton from were the climbing started. First they took a bath in the famous river by the Kitulgala Rest House, where in 1955 the world famous film: “The Bridge on the River Kwai “ was filmed.
The first part of the climbing was not too bad but the last kilometer goes straight up and took some time. All were wearing a lot of warm clothes and jackets, but still they felt very cold, except Siebold Scheper from the Netherlands!
All reached the top and could sleep and rest there for 2 hours, before starting to return.
