On invitation of the Liliane Fonds in the Netherlands, a two day “Kite Making Work Shop” was organized in the Dr. Reijntjes School for the Deaf in Moratuwa. Two famous Dutch artists, Mrs. Gerdine Duijsens and Mr. Hans van Horck with Manager Mr. Michel van Haren came for this Work Shop to Sri Lanka.
The Royal Netherlands Ambassador, H.E. Mrs. Leoni Cuelenaere, was the Chief Guest by the opening of this Work Shop on April 26th.
The deaf pupils were enthusiast and made very nice creations. At the end of the two days work shop there was an exhibition with all the 24 colourful kites. Both artists made a huge kite and 22 deaf children a smaller one. All the kites were taken by the guests to the Netherlands, as it is a part of a world wide Project for handicapped children.
In six countries handicapped children are painting kites and when all are ready there will be an exhibition and auction of all the 144 kites in the Netherlands, to raise Fund for the Projects for the Handicapped, sponsored by the Liliane Fonds.
The Liliane Fonds is also planning to make the Calendar 2011 with these paintings and to make beautiful cards for the Fund Raising.
